18th Century Venetian Gold! Reign of Paolo Renier!
One of the last Zecchinos, or Ducats issued by the Republic of Venice before it became an Austrian province in 1797. This particular coin was struck during the years of 1779-1789 when Paolo Renier reigned as Doge (Duke) of Venice. Struck at the Venice mint and contains .1122 oz actual Gold weight. The obverse features Christ standing, and the reverse shows the Doge kneeling. This well preserved example is graded Mint State 61 by NGC. Listed in Krause as FR#1434.
