This Gold Solidus is from the reign of the emperor Heraclius (610-641 AD). Heraclius was one of the greatest Byzantine imperators and founder of the Heraclian dynasty.
The obverse shows Heraclonas (left), Heraclius (center) and Heraclius Constantine (right). The reverse features a cross potent atop three steps. Two phrases are also shown on the reverse: "CONOB" which is an abbreviation of the Greek for "Byzantine coinage," and "VICTORIA AVGY."
This Gold coin weighs approx. 4.4 g. You'll be hard pressed to find a coin superior to this example, which has been graded Choice Extra Fine by NGC, with a perfect rating (5/5) for strike and (2/5) rating for surface. Even with the notation for Graffito, this is a very well preserved ancient Gold coin!
