Thracian/Scythian Gold Stater MS NGC (1st Century BC)

Thracian/Scythian Gold Stater MS NGC (1st Century BC)

Thracian or Scythian Gold stater of Coson (approx. 20mm - weight approx. 8.4g). The obverse shows three togate figures advancing, the first and third each carrying an ax over their shoulders. The reverse features an eagle standing on a scepter, holding a wreath in one claw.

This coin comes from an unknown dynasty, possibly Scythian, whose coinage seems to be inspired by the Silver denarius of M. Junius Brutus issued in 54 B.C. It is an exceptional ancient Gold coin graded Mint State by NGC with Strike and Surface ratings of 4/5 and 5/5, respectively. A high quality addition to any advanced ancient collection. Actual gram weight may vary slightly.
