The reverse is rotated about 90 degrees clockwise. It is rare to see a Morgan dollar with this much rotation.
There are several ways that rotated die errors occur. If the obverse and reverse dies are not aligned properly when they are installed, a rotated die error will be the result. One of the dies loosening and rotating in the press will also cause this error.
