The Story:
Hawksbill turtles are found throughout the tropical waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Named for their narrow, pointed beak, they are also recognizable by a distinctive pattern of overlapping scales on their exquisitely colored and patterned shells. This species typically avoids deep waters, preferring coastlines and coral reefs where they can find sponges, a primary food source for these omnivores. Beautiful creatures, they make incredible migrations in order to move from feeding sites to tropical beaches that often serve as nesting grounds. Hawksbill turtles come to New Zealand every year from Fiji; although they’ve been sighted as far south as Cook Strait, they are mostly seen in the upper North Island of New Zealand in the clear, shallow waters of the island shelve.

Like many sea turtles, hawksbills are a critically endangered species due mostly to human impact. Hawksbill eggs are still eaten around the world despite the turtle’s international protected status, and they are often killed for their flesh and their stunning shells that are highly valuable in some marketplaces.

A fantastically designed bullion item, this product has grown tremendously in popularity among investors in each of the four years that it’s been produced because of its intricate design. New Zealand Mint:
The New Zealand Mint is a privately owned company in Auckland, New Zealand. It is the only privately owned mint in New Zealand, purchasing refined gold from international sources to produce coins. They have established their reputation over the past four decades for their high quality design as exhibited by their innovative commemorative gold and silver bullion products. The only precious metal mint in New Zealand, the mint uses the tag-line “Minters of the South Pacific” and produces collector and bullion coins for a number of pacific nations, including Fiji, the Cook Islands, Niue and Tuvalu.

Comments about 2013 5 oz Silver New Zealand Mint $10 Fiji Taku:

I was thrilled to purchase this coin because I love the detail of the turtle on the obverse. But aside from that, the design of the reverse feels plain and uninteresting by comparison. The coin came in a direct-fit plastic case and I was disappointed to find that it moved liberally inside the case. Too bad a ring type case does not exist for this coin. If you like the Taku design, I would recommend the 1 oz or half oz varieties instead.

Comments about 2013 5 oz Silver New Zealand Mint $10 Fiji Taku:

this is the finest 5 oz silver coin you can buy period, price size and weight is excellent. Even when compared to the 5 oz Liberad which I love this New Zealand coin super passed that one. So this is a highly recommended 5 oz silver coin. My only complaint is that my plastic case was cracked. Its a good thing the coin itself was undamaged so I can still give this coin a 10 out of 10 rating and not feel bad. I can't wait to order another one of these. again Thank you its a pleasure doing business with Apmex Silver

Comments about 2013 5 oz Silver New Zealand Mint $10 Fiji Taku:

I've always liked the 1 oz. Fiji Taku coin, so when silver prices were down a bit I decided to treat myself to one of the 5 oz. size.
When I received my coin I was glad that I made the decision to get it.
Having never bought a 5 oz. coin before, I was not sure what to expect. Let me say that I do not buy precious metals purely as an investment, but mostly because I like shiny objects. The fact that they hold intrinsic value is just a great bonus.
Being a 5 oz. round, it is obviously larger and heavier than a 1 oz. coin. But with the larger size, there has been no suffering in the details. The design is still very detailed, and the large lettering is just impressive. I have read other reviews preferring the 5 oz. Mexican Libertad over the Taku because they think the back is more attractive. I really like the back of the Taku though. The simple heraldic design in the middle leaves a large amount of just mirror like silver. Once again… shiny.
To top everything off, the coin arrived already installed in a sturdy clear protective capsule.
To sum everything up, great all around acquisition. Higly recommended for anyone who collects for or at least appreciates beauty.

I mostly purchase 1 ounce silver bullion, e.g. maple leafs, philharmonics, etc., but I found this design to be stunning. I think that this is my favorite coin - 5 ounces of the nicest silver I've come across. Highly recommend. And as always APMEX, delivered in no time.
