The design depicts a half portrait of Hidalgo with a cathedral in the background. In fact, this is the exact design of the 1953 Silver 5 peso, which is listed in Krause as KM#468. This Gold medal is an interesting piece with an interesting history. Listed in Krause's Unusual World Coins as KM#M91a. Graded Mint State 68 by NGC.
