APMEX uses a special machine for this sealing process to ensure the products you receive are sealed completely, once they are removed directly from the mint boxes. The mint tubes are placed on the conveyor leading into the machine and the sealing process seals both ends of each tube with tamper-evident packaging. If this tube has been opened in any way, you will know it. After the process is completed, the tube is removed from the machine and then checked to ensure the quality of the packaging meets our exacting standards. You now have a finished tube of MintDirect® 2013 1 oz Silver American Eagle coins.

Once completed, the MintDirect® tubes are stored back in the vault until they are ordered by our customers. By using this process, APMEX can guarantee the coins you receive are in exactly the same condition and packaging as they were when they left the United States Mint.

The MintDirect® process provides you the assurance this product has not been opened, sorted or searched. Click here to learn all about MintDirect® products from APMEX.

First released November 24, 1986, the 1 oz Silver American Eagle has become the most popular Silver bullion coin not only in the United States, but in the entire world. In fact, this Silver coin is so highly sought after that in 2014 and 2015 the U.S. Mint could not match its level of production to consumer demand. In 2013, after a historic drop in Silver prices, demand increased so much that the U.S. Mint had to ration the sale of Silver coins for 18 months.

The driving force behind the creation of the Silver American Eagle was the government’s desire to sell off some of the Silver from the Defense National Stockpile. Although states with heavy mining interests and some legislators opposed the sale of the Silver, in 1985, the Senate agreed to permit the sale of Silver after an amendment was made to the bill permitting such action. Later in 2002, after it became apparent the stockpile of Silver would be depleted, an additional bill was passed that would allow the government to purchase Silver on the open market once it became necessary.

The design of this Silver bullion coin is steeped in American heritage and tradition. On the obverse of the coin is Adolph A. Weinman’s “Walking Liberty” design which was originally used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947. This iconic design was a public favorite and thus it was reinstituted years later on the 1 oz Silver American Eagle. The reverse features a heraldic eagle holding an olive branch in one talon and arrows in the other with a shield on its chest. In the beak of the bird is a banner that reads “E Pluribus Unum” and above the eagle are 13 five-pointed stars representing the original 13 colonies. This image mirrors the Great Seal of the United States.

These Silver bullion coins do not have mintmarks, as opposed to the Proof and Burnished versions, which do include a mintmark. From 1986 to 1998, they were manufactured at the San Francisco Mint. From 1999 to 2000, production was moved to the Philadelphia Mint. Since 2001, the 1 oz Silver American Eagle has been produced at the West Point Mint in New York, which has been referred to as the “Fort Knox of Silver.” Starting in 2011, due to the coin’s massive popularity, the San Francisco Mint again began minting coins to supplement the output from the West Point Mint.

The reason I purchase these coins was the mint direct process and I love purchasing the American Eagle - They arrived on time and in excellent condition as described by APMEX. Of course, they are sealed and I plan to keep them that way to protect the condition of the coins, so I have not examined each coin.

Pros

  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Attractive Design

  • Value (low premium over spot)

Very Nice sealed tube Mint-fresh Eagles

Sealed container--untouched Silver Eagles. These are beautiful coins and I get a few every year. I like having them and hate putting them in the bank safe-deposit box. I keep no valuable coins or metal at my home, so in the bank vault they go... Do yourself a favor--buy a tube (or six)

Pros

  • Recognized Brand
  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Mint Condition

Perfect... Item exactly as described

I opened one of the tubes I received from APMEX to check out the individual coins and found them to be perfect as described. The Mint Direct tube is $10 more than buying 20 loose 2013 Silver Eagles BU (as of 12/2013), which I found to be a good value considering the tube and wrap provided through MintDirect. These are perfect for the "Bullion Coin" allocation of my physical (in addition to "Junk" and "Bars"). Will be back for more...

Pros

  • Recognized Brand
  • Mint Condition
  • Attractive Design

I didn't open any of my tubes. But from the outside it looks like one of my coins is badly bent. Not a problem as I bought it for the silver value not coin value

Pros

  • Mint Condition
  • Attractive Design

Spots on coins

I received two of these rolls in the mail today. One roll was fine. However the second roll had visible discolorations (dark stains) on the ridges of four to five of the coins in the roll. Even with the seal, this roll doesn't match the impression that these coins are in "mint condition". I haven't broken the seal to see how extensive the discoloration is but seems like moisture was introduced into the roll before sealing. In all fairness this was the first issue I've had with about 12 mint direct rolls I've purchased but I worry about their quality control.

Cons

  • Poor Condition

The entire purchase process worked exactly as described, and I received everything in immaculate condition. The Mint Direct coins likewise are neatly sealed and labeled in their tube just like in the picture. Price per coin is a little high, but this is just one of those situations where you get what you pay for.
