BYZANTINE Gold Solidus!
This coin was struck during the reign of Justinian I (527-565 AD), commonly known as Justin the Great. He was born in what is today Macedonia, and he was the last Roman Emperor to speak Latin as a first language. During his reign he succeded in reconquering many of the former territories of the west including Italy, northern Africa, and the southern part of Spain. This coin is approx 20mm by 4.4g.
