To round off the celebration of the Bicentenary of Mexico’s War of Independence, and in accordance with the decree published in the Official Federal Gazette on Tuesday, June 14th 2011, a commemorative one kilogram coin of pure gold was minted, the first ever coin with these features minted in Mexico. There are only 200 such coins and each comes in a fine box and includes a certificate of authenticity printed on secure paper and signed by Banco de México officials as well as a booklet of relevant information on the Bicentenary of the War of Independence, the minting and issuing process. In the upper field in a semi-circle are the words “BICENTENARY”; below it the number “1810” and below that “2010”. In the middle, in perspective, is the Winged Victory figure of the Independence Column; in the left field, in a semi-circle are the words: “1 KG OF PURE GOLD”; together in the lower right-hand field the number “200” and the word “PESOS”, stepped perimeter; in the exergue the Mexican Mint, Casa de Moneda de México.
