Nice Piece of History

By  unclespider

Was expecting this product to be printed on heavier paper, when I received it; realized it was printed on tissue paper. I was afraid to handle it! The overall design is great, but nowhere on the product is there a date, the write up on the item says 1860-1869 but could not verify the date on the item.

Interesting Bill

By  Ryan

from Providence, RI

I have this displayed right next to my Roman Denarius and 5oz Libertad. It means a little more to me as I live in Providence. It is very cool to have a bill with no signature or serial number. For such a low cost to own, you are getting an interesting statement piece. It's also much bigger than any bill in circulation today, so be aware when purchasing a holder. I love it, and I show everyone I know, and they also find it to be insanely interesting and well designed!

Fascinating bit of American history. As far as I have been able to ascertain, this note was printed for the Bank of America of Providence, Rhode Island, by the National Bank Note Co. of New York. This "Bank of America" existed from 1851-90, after which it was absorbed by the Bank of America Loan & Trust Co. Notes such as these are commonly referred to as "Obsolete Currency" and were issued by state chartered banks and state and local governments up to the Civil War. This particular note, however, was never actually issued, which is why there is no serial number or signature. The note arrived crisp and clean and I am very satisfied with it.
