This Gold Solidus dates from the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Phocas (602 - 610 AD). It contains approx. 4.4g actual Gold weight and was produced at the Constantinople mint.
The obverse shows a facing bust of Phocas. dNN FOCAS PERP AVG
The reverse shows VICTORIA AVGY and an angel standing holding a long staff. CONOB appears below. Officinae I.
This coin is graded Mint State by NGC with a strike rating of (4/5), and surface rating of (2/5)--Notated for being brushed--still a very desirable ancient coin!
