Product Description

Roman Empire Gold!
This Gold Aureus was struck during the reign of emperor Tiberius (A.D. 14 - 37). The coin's approximate specifications are 19mm, 7.7g. The obverse shows the emperor's right facing bust and the words TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVSTVS. The reverse shows Livia seated right with PONTIF MAXIM inscribed.

This coin is the Tribute Penny in Gold. When asked (Matthew 22, verse 19 - 22) if taxes should be paid to Rome, Jesus said, "Show me the coin." When shown the coin, Jesus said, "Whose portrait is this?"
"Caesar," they replied.
"Then render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's".
The Tribute Penny was a Silver denarius. This coin is a Gold aureus with the same portrait and legend as the denarius. This is a very well preserved coin of this type with a good portrait of the Emperor Tiberius.

Graded Choice Extra Fine by NGC, this coin has a perfect strike rating of 5/5 and a surface rating of 3/5. This coin is almost 2,000 years old and is a great historical piece!
