Gallic War issue--over 2,000 years old!
These gold staters were struck sometime during the 1st century BC during the Gallic Wars. Several Roman Legions under the command of Julius Caesar invaded this area of western Europe and defeated Gallic tribes there. This added added most of the territory of what is now modern day France and Belgium to the Roman Republic.
These crudely struck coins contain approximately 0.2 of an ounce of gold. Average specifications are: 16mm X 6.0-6.3g.
Obverse: Plain
Reverse: Large dis-jointed horse.
These coins have been certified Choice Extra Fine by NGC, with strike and surface ratings of 4/5 and 3/5 respectively.
