The New York Assay Office was created in 1851 and opened in 1852 to help process the huge influx of gold from California to be used by the U.S. Mint. It operated at a high capacity until it closed on December 31, 1982.
This bar has a circular stamp with the words "ASSAY OFFICE", "1980", and "NEW YORK" surrounding a Spread Wing Eagle presenting a shield holding a branch and arrows.
This bar is extremely rare and is marked Serial #18.
This bar has 3 drill holes, but is guaranteed authentic.
It weighs at least 91.30 oz of 999.75 fine silver.
