Product Description

Roman gold coin from the reign of Nero!
This Gold coin was struck during the reign of the emperor Nero (A.D. 54 to 68). The Aureus was the standard gold coin of ancient Rome, and was equal to 25 silver denarii. These coins were issued regularly from the 1st century BC to the beginning of the 4th century AD. Approximate specifications are 18mm and 7.1g.

Nero was one of the best known of the Roman Emperors, and although discredited by some historians as a cruel emperor (he is believed to have had his own mother executed), Rome flourished during his reign. Nero concluded a peace treaty with the Parthian Empire to the east and kept a period of steady growth in place for Rome well into the next century.

Obverse: Nero's laureate bust facing right with the inscription NERO CAESAR AVGVSTVS.
Reverse: The inscription CONCORDIA AVGVATA with Concordia seated.

This coin was struck in Rome almost 2,000 years ago! It is graded Fine by NGC with strike and surface ratings of 4/5 & 2/5 respectively. This is a rare and desirable Gold coin of the Roman Empire.
