Gold coin from the era of Alexander the Great!
This Gold Stater was struck during the height of Macedonian power, sometime during the reign of Alexander III, more commonly known as Alexander the Great, king of Macedonia from 336-323 BC. It was during this time that the empire's boundaries stretched eastward from Greece to the western border of modern day India, and south through Turkey, Syria, and around into Egypt!
The obverse of the coin shows the helmeted head of Athena, goddess of wisdom and warfare, while the reverse features Nike, winged goddess of victory. Approximate specs are (18mm, 8.6 g). This coin has been graded Extra Fine by NGC with strike and surface ratings of 5/5 & 2/5 respectively. This is a high quality example of Gold coinage that is more than 2,300 years old!
