Ideal as part of a collection or as a fitting souvenir of Austria, the Euro Coin Set 2012 contains all eight pieces, from 1 cent to 2 euro, in superlative Proof quality. As 1 euro and 50 cent coins are not being produced for circulation in 2012, anyone wishing to own all eight 2012 euro and cent coins is advised not to miss out, by purchasing this comprehensive set.
The focus of the Proof quality Euro Coin set 2012 is the 2 euro coin issued in all 17 eurozone countries in commemoration of ten years of euro banknotes and coins. Created by Austrian Mint designer Helmut Andexlinger, the coin was the winning design in a competition that attracted more than 800 entries. In addition to the map of Europe, Helmut Andexlinger’s artwork shows the euro as a currency of worldwide importance, around which the vital role played by the currency is depicted. People are represented as a family, trade is symbolised by ships, the financial world by the European Central Bank, and industry by a factory, while wind power highlights the progress made possible by the euro. In addition, the coin features the country and year of issue as well as Helmut Andexlinger’s monogram.
Austria’s most famous composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Born in Salzburg, is featured on the 1 euro. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will forever be remembered for his dominance of Viennese classical music during his short life. The 50 cent euro is designed with the jewel in the Viennese Modernist crown. The Secession exhibition hall still exudes modernity more than a century after it was built. The Belvedere is featured on the 20 cent euro. A masterpiece of Baroque architecture, the Belvedere was once the palace of Prince Eugene of Savoy. Today it is home to some of the world’s most famous paintings, including The Kiss by Gustav Klimt. Vienna's gothic St. Stephen's cathedral is the focus of the 10 cent euro. Construction began on St Stephen's cathedral over 800 years ago. Its roof and tower, which feature on the 10 cent coin, still dominate the Vienna skyline today. The three smallest coins in the collection are all decorated with alpine flowers: the 5 cent piece with Primula auricula, the mountain cowslip. Made world famous by the song from The Sound of Music, the edelweiss adorns the 2 cent coin. The smallest coin in circulation rounds off the 2011 coin set’s trio of alpine flowers with a gentian.
