Got my gold eagle and tube of silver ones. My favorite design. As someone mentioned before I definitely can see a "dull" spot on the eagle side of the coin in the center which is not an issue with prior years. Hopefully this won't be an issue with '15 eagles.

As for the 22k vs 24k debate... people need to look at the buy-back prices. You'll get the same $$$ for these eagles when you sell them as you would for a 24k coin.

As always, happy with Apmex service and also like what they've done with their website.

I paid a premium to pre-order the 2014 gold American eagles. However, when I received them they all had a similar rough spot on the eagle side of the coin near the center right below where the eagle carries the branch. I was unhappy enough to exchange them for new ones. When I received the new 2014 gold eagles, they had similar rough areas on the eagle side of the coin (about the size of a dime in the center of the coin, some smaller). The coins did not appear to be scratched or scuffed, but more like dull where the center of the coin looks rough and not shiny. It's almost as if there is some kind of manufacturing flaw in the mold for the 2014 gold eagles on the eagle side of the coin. The lady liberty side of the coin has been perfect on all coins I have received. Not sure if I should go through the trouble to return them yet again. The coins look ok but not mint, which is what I paid for. I had no such issues with my 2013 gold eagles that I purchased from APMEX. Odd since I am buying the 2014s which there is no chance they were previously circulated. I also bought a bunch of 2014 silver eagles and had no such issues. has anyone else had this issue with the 2014 gold eagles?

Comments about 2014 1 oz Gold American Eagle BU:

There is a first time for everything it seems. I have purchased many BU coins from APMEX with complete quality satisfaction and delivery by them in the past.
However, my last purchase of a 1 oz Gold Eagle came in damaged.
It has a small scuff mark about the size of a pencil eraser below the eagle talons and a small ding near the rim, not exactly BU condition. I realize after opening the box it became my word against theirs as to condition.I should have looked it over without taking it out of the flip. Overall I will continue buying from APMEX - but this is one bad mark as to quality delivered.

            "Flaw" in 2014's?

            Best Uses

Comments about 2014 1 oz Gold American Eagle BU:

The "flaw" in the 2014's, mentioned elsewhere, is not a flaw specific to 2014. The dies that are used seem to wear prematurely above and below the flying eagle on the reverse. I have 2014's that are perfect, and I have 2014's that exhibit the "rough" surface areas that reviewers have noticed. I have seen this same issue with other years. The dies are not being replaced soon enough. The Silver Eagles have the same issue - in fact, it is much worse. Sometimes the Silver Eagles are mostly matte with only small patches of sheen here and there. The U.S. Mint is trying to save money by not switching dies until absolutely necessary. This results in some surface inconsistencies.
