This old Israel Coin has a very low mintage and carries with it a phenomenal story!
From the "Sites in the Holy Land" series is this Gold 5 NIS coin. It has a Gold weight of .278 oz. and a mintage of 4,000 coins. On the obverse is the seven-branched candelabrum, a lulav and ethrog with the words "Peace in Israel" in Hebrew, as appears on the mosaic floor of the ancient Synagogue in Jericho. A rosette and pillars from the palace of the Khalif Hisham (724-743) and the pit, ruins of the round tower at Tel al-Sultan, the sacred site of Jericho, dating from neolithic times. Palm trees allude to frequent biblical references to Jericho as "The City of Palm Trees". The word "Jericho" in Hebrew and English. On the reverse is the nominal value of 5 New Sheqalim and the emblem of the State of Israel, the word "Israel" in Hebrew, English and Arabic and the date of issue - 5748 - 1987.
