The coin captures Mitre Peak in all its glory, with three unfurling fern fronds (koru) swirling around it to represent the realm of Tawhirimatea (God of the Winds). Minted from .999-fine Gold, this 1/4 oz Kiwi Treasures coin is limited to a worldwide mintage of just 950 coins and comes complete in commemorative packaging.
The iconic mountain, Mitre Peak, is one of New Zealand’s most photographed attractions, and sits on the shore Milford Sound which is a region that attracts countless tourists each year due to its natural beauty.
Both the kiwi bird and Mitre Peak are pictured beautifully in frosty three-dimensional relief with a Proof mirrorlike background on this stunning 1/4 oz Gold coin. The profile of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse.
The distinctive shape of the peak in southern New Zealand gives the mountain its name, after the mitre headwear of Christian bishops. It was named by a survey crew from the HMS Acheron.
