Tough one year type coin!
South Africa issued a 1 Pound gold coin with a likeness of King George VI only in 1952, the year of his death. This coin is rarely offered for sale. With mintages of just 4,500 Mint State examples and 12,000 Proofs, it's easy to see why! These are much harder to find than the 1 Rand coins that replaced them in 1961. Each coin contains .2355 oz. of Gold.
A bust of George VI appears on the obverse, while a Springbok gazelle appears on the reverse. Coins in this listing may be BU or Proof, and may have light contact marks. Listed in Krause as KM#43.
