Product Description

One of the finest known!
In 1979, Peru issued a series of gold coins to commemorate heroes from the War of the Pacific which began a century earlier. This conflict saw Peru and Bolivia fighting against Chile over a border dispute. The eventual Chilean victory resulted in Bolivia losing its coastline on the Pacific Ocean, and making it the landlocked country it is today.
Peruvian naval hero, Admiral Miguel Grau who was killed in battle, appears on the reverse of this large .9167 fine gold coin. Gold content is 0.9994 ounces.
This example has been graded Mint State 67 by NGC and only 2 coins have been graded higher! A beautifully struck example that is sure to please! KM#262.
