One of the finest known!
This coin pays tribute to Francisco Garcia Calderon, who was briefly president of Peru during the 1879-1883 war with Bolivia against Chile. This war is often referred to as the War of the Pacific due to the many naval battles fought between the belligerents.
A bust of Calderon appears on the reverse of this large .9167 fine gold coin. The National Arms of Peru are on the obverse. Struck at the Lima mint, the gold content is 0.500 of an ounce.
