Rarely encountered gold from Tonga!
AGW= 0.2393 of an ounce. Issued by the south Pacific island nation of Tonga to honor the long reigning (1918-1965) Queen of Tonga, Salote Mafile‘o Pilolevu Tupou III, more commonly referred to as Salote. She was a popular monarch, well liked by her people, and remembered for her stature, (she stood 6 feet 3 inches tall).
This 1/2 Koula Gold coin displays the Tongan Coat of Arms on the reverse. A right facing bust of the queen is on the obverse. This coin has been certified Mint State 64 by NGC, with only 2 examples graded higher in thier census. Listed in Krause as KM#1.
