This one-year type coin has a low mintage of 89,000 coins! In 1943, the Mexican Mint struck the 50 pesos with the wording 37.5 Gr. Oro Puro to the left and the right of Winged Victory. Government officials at the time felt that since the coin contained far more than 50 pesos in Gold that there was no reason to have 50 pesos on the coin. The public outcry was such that 50 pesos was added back to the coin the following year. An interesting one-year type with a great story. This impressively large Gold coin has a fineness of .900, and a Gold content of 1.2057 oz. Very few examples of this date grade this high, and PCGS has certified this one as Mint State 65! Only 21 coins graded higher by PCGS. This beautifully designed 50 Pesos Gold coin is graded MS-65 and holdered as a secure plus! What distinguishes this coin as a secure plus is the PCGS shield on the slab label. With PCGS Secure service, each coin is laser scanned, imaged, and registered into the Secure data base. The system digitally captures the unique fingerprints of both sides of each coin. Secure can also be used to perform a metallic composition analysis of your coin. And now, for your records and as a further deterrent to coin doctoring and counterfeiting, high-quality images of all coins submitted under Secure are available under Cert Verification on the PCGS websiteCataloged in Krause as KM#482.
