This magnificent error coin has been graded by PCGS as a Near Perfect Mint State-69 Brokage Error. Tight quality standards at the U. S. mint make this an even more incredible find. Absolutely extremely rare!!! Beautiful" Brockage" Error! This “Severe" modern mint error is graded by PCGS with the following designation: Brockage From Struck Fragment Mint Error MS-69. It started out as a blank planchet and was then struck with a 2nd pressed coin to produce a large indention with evidence of the reeded edge and stars from the obverse of a fully struck gold eagle. A brockage error only occurs when there are two coins involved. One of the coins involved will be a struck coin that will end up stuck between the dies and will be grouped with a blank planchet which was fed into the collar. The struck coin will then be impressed into the side of the blank planchet and the result will be a second coin which has images of the first coin pressed into the design. The sunken image is known at the brockage.
