This Gold Aureus was struck during the reign of emperor Tiberius (A.D. 14 - 37). The coin's approximate specifications are 19mm, 7.81g. The obverse shows the emperor's right facing bust and the words TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVSTVS. The reverse shows Livia seated right with PONTIF MAXIM inscribed.
This coin is the Tribute Penny in Gold. When asked (Matthew 22, verse 19 - 22) if taxes should be paid to Rome, Jesus said, "Show me the coin." When shown the coin, Jesus said, "Whose portrait is this?"
"Caesar," they replied.
