The history of the Gold Buffalo coin

The 1 oz Gold Buffalo revives the famous “Black Diamond” buffalo design first seen on the Buffalo Nickel coin introduced in 1913. The buffalo on the Gold Buffalo coin, according to most accounts, was modeled on Black Diamond, a North American buffalo housed at the Central Park Zoo in New York City. The Gold coin’s version of Black Diamond, a popular and well-known attraction born in 1893 and donated to the zoo by Barnum and Bailey, stands regal and strong. Besides appearing on Gold bullion and the Buffalo Nickel, Black Diamond is said to be the model for the $10 U.S. banknote, Series 1901.

Why invest in a 1 oz Gold Buffalo?

The 1 oz Gold Buffalo is a beautiful coin, and these Gold Buffalo coins have been rated a perfect 70 by the Professional Coin Grading Services. A perfect 70 Gold Buffalo coin has no wear marks, scuffs or scratches. A Gold coin must be reviewed by two independent experts to be graded, and they must agree on the rating or a third expert is called in to finalize the grade. A perfect Gold bullion coin is then “slabbed,” meaning it is encased in tamper-resistant plastic and tagged with its grade.

A 1 oz Gold Buffalo is one of the most common sizes of Gold bullion

A 1 oz Gold Buffalo contains 1 troy ounce of Gold. A troy ounce is the standard unit used to measure the weight of Precious Metals all over the world. The troy ounce of gold in a Gold Buffalo coin is equal to exactly 480 grains or 20 pennyweight, and approximately 31.1 grams or 1.1 avoirdupois ounces - the unit most commonly referred to as an "ounce," outside of the world of Precious Metals. The spot price of Gold is almost always quoted as the price per troy ounce in U.S. dollars.

Great product. This is the second I ordered. Each has been delivered as first strike or early release. The first was accidentally delivered as NGC MS-70 instead of PCGS. Customer service was responsive and easily agreed to my requested solution, even though the solution wasn't what they offered. I was satisfied with both purchases, even with the mistake on the first.

Pros

  • Easy to Sell
  • Mint Condition
