The history of Canadian Maple Leaf coins

The first Canadian Maple Leaf coin was introduced in 1979. The only bullion coin available at the time was the Gold Krugerrand, but due to the economic boycott of apartheid-era South Africa, it was not widely available. The first 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leaf was minted in 1982 with an image of 39-year-old Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. In 1990, the popular Royal Canadian Mint coin was updated with an image of the 64-year-old Queen and in 2005 it was again changed to an image of the 74-year-old Queen.

Why invest in Canadian Leaf coins?

Canadian Maple Leaf coins make an excellent addition to any investment portfolio. Canadian coins are popular with investors for their high .9999 fine Gold purity. The Gold found in 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leaf coins is an important part of a diversified investment portfolio because Gold has typically maintained its value over the long term. Royal Canadian Mint Gold coins are considered to be a safe haven by investors because Gold’s price often increases when the value of paper investments, such as stocks and bonds, falters.

New features on Canadian Maple Leaf coins enhance beauty and security.

Fractional Canadian Maple Leaf coins have a new feature to enhance the beauty and security of these Canadian coins. In 2015, the Royal Canadian Mint added radial lines to the background of both sides of these Gold coins. This addition makes it even more difficult to counterfeit these 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leaf coins while also adding a beautiful element to the design.

Beautiful Coin...... But

Decided on adding some "Gold" Canadian Maple Leafs to my collection. Didn't see me buying the 1oz Leaf, so I opted for the 1/10oz version. Still, very attractive, nice detail. The only drawback..... and this is just my opinion.... I didn't realize how small 1/10oz would appear. Other than that, can't complain about my purchase.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell
  • Mint Condition

Would not hesitate in considering to buy again.

First of all, I really like maple leaves, gold and silver. I trust the RCM with their assay and their manufacturing processes. These are quality coins. They are small and because they are small have a premium, like all fractional coins, higher than one ounce coins. Despite this, buy them when you can't buy a one, half, or quarter ounce. They add up quickly. By the way, they are exquisite, beautiful, striking.

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell
  • Mint Condition
