The history of the 1 oz Silver Panda coin

This 2015 1 oz Silver coin exemplifies the fine design and quality many have come to expect from the Silver Panda series first introduced in 1983. Each year a new Silver Panda coin is issued featuring a fresh depiction of one of China’s most beloved animals, the panda bear. Unlike its predecessors, the 2015 Chinese Silver Panda does not have any inscription noting its metal, weight or purity, though the People’s Bank of China continues to guarantee the Silver coins for containing one troy ounce of .999 fine Silver. The inscriptions returned to the Silver coins in 2016, though the most notable difference is that the Silver coins are now inscribed with their weight in grams as opposed to troy ounces.

Why invest in the 1 oz Silver coin?

Many buy these 1 oz Silver coins for both their value as an investment, and their numismatic, or collector, value. Silver Panda coins are popular among investors because the People’s Bank of China guarantees the Silver coins for their weight, content and purity, and the Silver coins are eligible for use with Precious Metals IRAs. The Silver coins are also recognized worldwide, making them easier to sell or trade, when needed. Collectors adore the Chinese Silver Panda because the Panda design on the reverse changes from year to year.

Whether investing or collecting 1 oz Silver Panda coins, find the right storage solution.

I had to have one of the LAST 1oz. Pandas. They are always beautiful. 30 grams isn't a noticeable change from the 31.1 They are becoming a lot more common. The mintage has increased to 10 million, annually. Too beautiful to pass up. They inflate with every year that goes by....

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell
  • Mint Condition
  • Recognized Brand

Cons

  • Common (higher mintage)

2015 Ends Troy Weight

My favorite silver Panda is this 2015. This was the last year of using English mass as 2016 Panda changed to Metric Grams. The year 2015 Silver Panda is a beautiful coin, not dated and possibly will be the most popular Panda as the price rose within the introduction of 2017 Panda. Other factors, the last Panda with Troy Ounce, change of mass to grams and simply a coin that will not only maintain but increase in value regardless the price of silver.

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Easy to Sell
  • Mint Condition
  • Recognized Brand

Could appreciate more than normal pandas

By  John

I bought these coins as not only are they beautiful and I think silver is undervalued, but because the pandas tend to appreciate much more than other silver coins. This year is a unique year with no purity on it. Apparently the Chinese mint is transitioning to metric and this will be the only year that it is not included. I was thinking that this may add even more then other pandas given this uniqueness. If you look at how much these appreciate just in one year, it's amazing, and certain years are even much more. Hoping this year with the uniqueness will cause these coins to more than double (look at the prices of the 2012-2014 pandas) but perhaps triple or more come this time next year

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Recognized Brand
