Entertaining round from a well known series with low mintage. The premium is very high but you do at least get a nice box and coa. This creature stares into the depths of your soul....there is a reason why it comes in a box.

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Mint Condition

Antique finish silver wildlife coins = VERY POPULAR

There has been a lot of collector's interest in these antique finished silver wildlife coins, especially with the lower mintage numbers. Many have been produced over the last few years and quite a few have gone up in value from their initial offering prices. One example is the 2012 - 1oz "Long Eared Hedgehog". Hard to get one now under $300, in fact that hedgehog issue became so popular that many counterfeits from China & Russia are floating out there in the marketplace. Unfortunately the producer just offered the real ones in a capsule with a cheaply made non-serialized paper COA, which is apparently also very easy to reproduce and sell along with the counterfeits. It's unfortunate, but that's reality, ....so be aware ... these knock offs are decently struck and can fool a collector real easy. Anyway, this particular coin the "Campbell's Hamster" issue is an attractive design, well done on the detailed engraving and finish. I guess some mints are trying to curtail the counterfeiting, so this issue does have the "SeQrySign" security privy mark on the reverse. Personally I don't think that small privy mark is much of a deterrent when it comes to making fakes. Striking an actual production # on the coin itself and having a internet link to track ownership of those numbers like some mints are doing is a much better process to verify originality and production strike order. I like that method much more, and believe it adds a lot more to my peace of mind and the actual coin's collectability. Back to the Hamster coin...it does come with a nice wooden holder and outer box. Overall, a nice addition to any wildlife collection.

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
