The history of Silver Libertad coins

All Gold and Silver Libertad coins feature an image of the Angel of Independence, or Winged Victory, on the obverse. This image, on the 1/4 Silver Libertad and other Libertads, is also known as “El Angel” and is a victory column in downtown Mexico City. El Angel, featured on Libertad Mexican Silver coins, was built in 1910 by architect Antonio Rivas Mercado to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the beginning of Mexico’s War of Independence. This iconic image featured on Libertad fractional Silver coins and Libertads of other denominations is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Mexico City, and it is where people gather to both celebrate and protest.

Why invest in Silver Libertad coins?

Silver Libertad coins are highly sought after due to their relative rarity, resulting from low mintages. Investors and collectors seek out 1/4 oz Silver Libertad coins and other Libertad coins for the iconic, memorable design. They also like Mexican Silver coins because they are produced at Casa de Moneda, the oldest mint in North America. These fractional Silver coins contain 1/4 oz fine Silver and are guaranteed by Banco de Mexico.

Buy fractional Silver coins. Affordable Precious Metals for your collection or portfolio.

Silver fractional coins and other Silver products are priced lower than Gold, Platinum and Palladium, allowing investors to get in on Precious Metals investing at a low price point. The lower price of Silver, found in 1/4 oz Silver Libertad coins and other Silver products, might have something to do with fact that Gold is more difficult to mine than Silver and requires a more extensive purification process. Silver Libertad coins, and other Silver products, cost less than other Precious Metals due to demand, perception of Silver’s value and rarity (although the assumption that Gold is rarer is up for debate). Mexican Silver coins in fractional units are a good way to start investing in Precious Metals because even at this very low price point, when you purchase a Mexican Libertad, you are buying a coin with an extremely low mintage, with this rarity boosting its value and demand.

After buying Silver bullion, consider whether to store at home or a secure storage facility.

From fractional Silver coins to 1 kilo Silver bars, there exists many ways to hold Silver depending on your investment goals and storage preferences. For those who want to hold Silver, Mexican Silver coins and other Silver coins work well, as you can display them at home and have them close at hand. The more utilitarian investor, instead of displaying beautiful Silver Libertad coins, might prefer to purchase a large quantity of Silver in one purchase. When buying 1/4 oz Silver Libertad coins and other Silver bullion in large quantities, it may be time to consider storing your investment offsite in a maximum security storage site, like that provided by Citadel Global Services, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of APMEX.
