Fine Dimes

By  Mother Speaks

from Dallas, TX

4.0

There was a drop in price in silver a couple of weeks ago, and I needed more dimes for my collection, so I pulled the trigger. There was a wide variety of conditions in the bag -- 3 were culls (one had a hole and two had giant gouges in the edges) and one was a pre-64 Roosevelt, but 18 of them were in absolutely beautiful condition -- possibly AU or BU, so I figure it's a wash and I'm satisfied with the product.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell
  • Recognized Brand

Happy with order

By  Nathan

I ordered 1 bag. Coins were fun to go through. Most of them were common, higher mintage (which is to be expected as rare coins are rare!). Almost all the coins were in great condition, only a few below F condition. Had a good handful of BU, a few handfuls of AU. Had a few from the 1910's, a handful from the 20's and the rest were 30's. Best find was a 1916-s in Very fine condition.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Recognized Brand

Cons

  • Common (higher mintage)

Surprising quality at bargain store prices.

I have always loved the design of the mercury dime so I couldn't pass these up. I was a little disappointed at the number with unreadable or barely readable dates, and the rest were almost all in the '40s. But I guess that's "average circulated". I would order them again.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design

Cons

  • Common (higher mintage)

Fun bag

I bought a value bag of Winged Liberty (Mercury) dimes for silver content, hoping to find some better coins in the mix - I was not disappointed: a lot of the 1940-45 dimes were in excellent condition, maybe 50 in all - the count was exactly 500, there were a half dozen Barbers and FDRs, and only a few slick, bent or heavily scratched/dinged coins - one coin caught my eye - bright and shiny, AU to XF quality; I was expecting a 1945, but much to my surprise, it was a 1924 D ! It had several hard-encrusted black 'tar' spots on its face, but is still worth $20-40, maybe more if the spots can be dissolved. The coins were as advertised, mostly worn but some better than average and one unexpected 'keeper'! Buy a bag of fun - see what you can find :o)

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Collectible (lower mintage)

An effective way to accumulate small-denomination 90% silver.

By  Michael

from Tucson, AZ

4.0

I was looking for a way to accumulate some easy-to-store and easily recognizable small-denomination 90% silver, and have always liked the Winged Liberty dime. These coins arrived quickly and well-packed, albeit a bit dirty. There were exactly 500, although one was a Roosevelt dime and three were pretty badly bent. A quick note to AMPEX, and replacements were sent. Thank you for that! Their condition ranged from a few nearly slicks to VG/Fine ... as advertised, in "circulated condition." The next time I will probably order Roosevelt 90% silver dimes, because the premium over spot silver is a bit less and these Mercury dimes were not high enough grade to make them collectible. Nice product, but not exceptional, but extraordinary customer service!

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell

Even though these are considered junk silver, they are a great value when bought at low premium. The small denomination would be perfect for trade/barter of everyday goods during tough times. APMEX delivered exactly what was ordered quickly, as usual.
