1915 4 Ducat

By  Tomas

from El Paso, TX

4.0

My experience with APMEX has been excellent: reasonable pricing and quality product. However, the 4 Ducat I received was rather beat up. The edge was nicked and it had other marks, but I do intend to obtain more of these coins. Good gold content for the weight and really a beautiful coin.

Pros

  • Attractive Design

I like Austrian Mint products. Nice restrike and beautiful design. It is a very thin coin with large diameter and you need to be ready for that before you by these coins. 50-50 if I buy more but am glad I have this one.

Beautiful re-strike coin

Absolutely gorgeous re-strike coin, what is interesting is that the reviewer who said these coins look like a prize out of a crackerjack box and so thin that they look like they will bend is to me what makes them so appealing. Beautifully struck gold coin which I will be picking up more in the future.

Pros

  • Attractive Design
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Easy to Sell
  • Mint Condition

A pround ducat

By  Goldfinger

from Seattle, WA

5.0

This coin arrived very well packed and in mint condition. A lot less hassle and less money than eBay or the local gold shops, plus it was perfect, and that is what I wanted in this coin, just a perfect fancy 4 ducat. A lot of fun in this coin, thin and big and a not too ugly dude on the front unlike having an ugly queen on your coin. A bit of history, however restrict and brand new. I liked being able to lock in the price and pay with a check. PayPal was an option at an additional fee, which PP charges to make their boat float. Would I do this again, you betcha, in a second.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Mint Condition
  • Recognized Brand

Not as described

By  Tony

from The Dalles

I was really excited about receiving this coin( I also ordered the 1 ducat coin), but was dismayed once acquired. It seems very flimsy, almost tin like and prize out of a "Cracker Jack" box. I really tried to convince myself that these coins were worth what I paid but I just can't. I'll attempt contacting customer service tomorrow. I've read a few of the negative reviews and they sound of similar experience. Maybe I just coins of poor quality. Sorry for the poor review.

Cons

  • Poor Condition

Interesting Coin

Bought this remarkable coin for its historic significance and its intriguing design of Emperor Franz Joseph before his demise three years later. It's 40mm diameter is more than sufficient to capture the well designed details. While some might find the thinness of the coin detracting, an almost 1/2 oz of gold is an almost 1/2 oz of gold. Yes, I known it's a restrike, but the Mint owns the original dies. Good stuff!

Pros

  • Mint Condition
  • Historic Significance
  • Attractive Design
