Rare Medal honoring Spanish-American War Hero - Admiral Dewey Nice souvenir medal, likely made of brass, honoring the "Hero of Manila Bay" - Admiral George Dewey. Dewey was a real American hero after destroying the Spanish Pacific Squadron in Maila Bay in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War. The battle took place on May 1, 1898. The medal consists of an eagle sitting atop a shield. On the shield is depicted the Dewey Triumphal Arch, which was situated in Madison Square in New York City. The arch was erected just to honor Admiral Dewey. Atop the eagle is a bar that states "SOUVENIR" with a missing pin. Through the loop in the top of the bar is a small ribbon. A great medal to honor a great American Naval Hero.
