The 2016 Silver Britannia coin makes a great investment in Precious Metals. Add this 2016 1 oz Silver Britannia 25-Coin MintDirect® Tube to your cart today!

To ensure our customers receive only 2016 Silver Britannias that have remained unopened from the British Royal Mint, APMEX has created a process to guarantee these coins are direct from mint-sealed boxes. This process called MintDirect® is your guarantee that these coins remain packaged in tubes directly from the Royal Mint.

APMEX uses a special machine for this sealing process to ensure the products you receive are sealed completely, once they are removed directly from the mint boxes. The mint tubes are placed on the conveyor leading into the machine, and the sealing process seals both ends of each tube with tamper-evident packaging. If this tube has been opened in any way, you will know it. After the process is completed, the tube is removed from the machine and checked to ensure the quality of the packaging meets our exacting standards. You now have a finished tube of MintDirect® 2016 1 oz Silver Britannia coins.

Once completed, the MintDirect® tubes are stored in the vault until they are ordered by our customers. By using this process, APMEX can guarantee the coins you receive are in exactly the same condition and packaging as they were when they left the British Royal Mint.

The MintDirect® process provides you the assurance this product has not been opened, sorted or searched. Click for more details

Britannia, the female personification of the British Isles, takes her name from an ancient term for Great Britain and has been a popular figure since the 1st century, when she was first depicted on Roman coinage under the rule of Emperor Hadrian. Illustrated as a goddess, Britannia resembles the Roman figure Boudica. Britannia first appeared on British coins in 1672, when she graced the farthing. She was a firm fixture on coins from this point onwards, appearing on pennies issued under every monarch from 1797 until decimalization, when she was chosen to appear on the 50 pence coin until 2008.

Over the years, the image of Britannia has altered slightly, with her maritime links being emphasized by switching her spear to a trident. Britannia is seen as a symbol of British unity, liberty and strength, meaning she resurfaces during particularly challenging times. Like Columbia in the U.S. and Marianne in France, Britannia becomes more prominent in times of war or when national pride is booming.

In 1987, Britannia’s image graced the new Gold bullion coin minted by the Royal Mint known as the Gold Britannia. These Gold coins have since grown in popularity as an investment and a collector’s piece. Gold Britannias are available in sizes as small as 1/20 oz and as large as 5 oz Gold coins. In 1997, the Royal Mint expanded this design to a Silver bullion coin known as the Silver Britannia. Over time, both the Gold Britannia and Silver Britannia have experienced changes in design and an increase in metal purity, making them major players in the modern coin market.

Nice Coins, but Dreaded Milk Spots

By  Mr. G.

from New Jersey

3.0

Having purchased a few MintDirect tubes of American Silver Eagles in the past, I decided to pick up my first MintDirect tube of Britannia Coins. The 2016 Britannia Coins showcase a very nice design. The finish really stands out in terms of just how shiny these are compared to other coins and rounds on the market. Unfortunately, 12 out of 25 coins in the tube had dreaded milk spots. It is impossible to know when the spots started to develop, but overall a bit of a disappointment.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design

  • Recognized Brand

Cons

  • Common (higher mintage)
  • Poor Condition

Adding Classic Weight To Stack

By  CJ Eatmon

I had to buy at least 1 tube of these Britannia coins to add some weight - along with may tubes of Walking Liberty coins - to pay tribute to the one ounce Brit . Unfortunately - as for the American Walking Liberty - The Brit has what I think is a much more attractive design . . . The quality of every coin is always proof like . I don't feel enough of these coins where being bought - as APMEX was using these Britannia's to promote a " Monster Box Giveaway " of these 1 ounce Brits . Thanks Again APMEX for you trustworthiness .

Tough Call

Silver was inexpensive. It was an opportunity to buy a roll of these desirable coins. On the plus side, their face value is higher than the American, Canadian, and Austrilian cousins. The down side is the strange mat surface fields and reverse proof like devices - not so aesthetically appealing. My advice is stick with American Eagle or the Maple Leaf. Appreciate APMEX's great selection and above average service

Pros

  • Mint Condition
  • Recognized Brand

Cons

  • Unattractive Design
