The 2016 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf features a new form of security though the Royal Canadian Mint’s Bullion DNA program. The Bullion DNA program offers the highest security on the market for any bullion coin. Each bullion coin features a textured maple leaf security privy mark, micro-engraved with laser technology and is visible only under magnification. Etched within the maple leaf security mark are the two digits indicating the coin’s production year. Each micro-engraving is encoded, scanned and recorded at the mint for future authentication giving each coin their unique Bullion DNA.

Bullion DNA authenticates coins by scanning them with a Mint’s proprietary Bullion DNA reader verifying that the micro-engraved security mark is a match to the Royal Canadian Mint’s secure database. This process provides each Silver Maple Leaf coin with the highest security for any coin in the market place. The Royal Canadian Mint’s unique Bullion DNA program authenticates Silver Maple Leaf coins dated 2015 and later. APMEX is a recognized Bullion DNA dealer for trusted RCM products.

Canadian Maple Leafs are more affordable than the US or Mexican silver rounds. This is a very good buy.

Love these maples!

By  Happy customer

After ordering only silver American eagles, I decided to diversify a bit and ordered some from around the world. By far, these Canadian maple leafs are a cut above the rest in terms of brilliant shine, impeccable attention to detail, and effective anti-counterfeiting measures. You won't regret ordering as many of these as you can handle. I will definitely be purchasing more.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Easy to Sell
  • Mint Condition
  • Recognized Brand

Typical Maple Leaf

By  Bama

I purchased a few of these to finish out a tube I had. It's the same deal....take away the milk spots and you have perfection. The milk spotting was horrible on the batch I received, but it's to be expected with Maple Leafs. Overall, a good, divisible, low premium, government bullion coin that will be easy to liquidate with no sentimental value when the time comes.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Easy to Sell
  • Recognized Brand

Cons

  • Poor Condition

Nice coin, mint needs to get their stuff together.

Be ready to deal with a lot of spotting. I'm a HUGE fan of Canadian Maples, but they have a serious issue with spotting. Past few purchases I've made have spotted within days or weeks.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Recognized Brand

Cons

  • Poor Condition

A steal at the price--must have

These coins are highly recommended for any serious silver stacker or collector. You get the radial lines with these (and other recent dates), making it miserable for anyone to strike molybdenum rounds and plate it with silver, and pass them off as real. (That is a common trick, more common with large bars). Security aside, these coins are more pure than standard rounds (99.99% instead of 99.9%). They also come from the Canadian mint, making them a souvenir for whatever Canada trip you may have had. The year 2016 is not exceptional in rarity, so they are a bit common which means they are readily available. This will not matter a bit once the dollar becomes toilet paper, however. Anyone thinking of picking up a round trade of whatever Dow stock would be better off getting a few tubs of these coins, regardless of the date. They are somewhat more exotic than the American Eagles (which I also recommend), but not as expensive as the Australia Kookaburras (which I still recommend even at the extra cost, if you already have a base stack of silver). Whatever, I recommend getting them soon before they become unaffordable and silver prices go way up.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell
  • Mint Condition

My most favored silver coin due to anti-counterfeit features

By  Blargg

from Central TX

I've liked the maple leaf design of these the most out of common silver coins. The recent addition of the radial lines behind the maple leaf and the laser-engraved miniature leaf give me confidence when buying these that they aren't counterfeits. Queen Elizabeth II appears very shiny and is nice to look at under a light. The radial pattern behind her and the maple leaf spins around when tilting the coin under a light.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell

Ordered my coins online in the morning; then wired money that afternoon; got my coins delivered 2 days later. Amazing! Compare this to all the others and APMEX blows them all out of the water. I can't recommend APMEX highly enough and won't use any other company going forward. Thank you.

  • Value (low premium over spot)

The worth of Silver coins is, in part, based on the many uses of Silver.

A 2016 1 oz Silver Maple leaf gets much of its value from Silver’s many industrial uses, starting with its use in photography in 1727. The metal in Silver coins is reasonably abundant in the earth, but its extraordinary ability to conduct heat and electricity, and its antimicrobial properties create a rising demand, outstripping the supply nearly every year since 1990. A Canadian Maple Leaf is more pure than most jewelry, another major use of Silver, because Silver is soft and needs to be alloyed with another metal for daily use. A 1 oz Silver bullion coin represents humanity’s enduring appreciation of Silver, both for its beauty and its usefulness.
