The Philharmonic bullion series was introduced in 1989 to honor the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra and its compelling arrangements. The Vienna Philharmonic was founded in 1842 and continues its success, in part, due to a lengthy and demanding selection process for musicians.
The Gold Philharmonic was the first release of the Philharmonic bullion series and gained immediate popularity. According to the World Gold Council, it was the best-selling Gold coin in 1992, 1995 and 1996. A Silver version was released in 2008 and saw similar success. Finally, in 2016, the Austrian Mint released a Platinum version that has opened up the series to new buyers.
