Biblical Series Continues with Second Release of 2018
Scottsdale Mint has released their second 2018 coin in the 60-coin Biblical Series. This 20th overall release is the depiction of Jesus Scourged. This coin, along with the rest of the series, includes a gift box resembling the Bible and a certificate of authenticity.
French artist Gustave Doré’s rendering of Jesus’ flogging during the trial leading up to his crucifixion, though tragic, is not as gruesome looking as many may have expected. History reveals that the Romans employed three types of whipping, each with an increasing degree of severity. Level One was a moderate beating for minor offenses. Level Two was a severe flogging for more serious crimes. Finally, Level Three was the most brutal, inhumane form of punishment. This form of scourging was generally reserved for condemned criminals as a prelude to crucifixion.
Scottsdale Mint has done a phenomenal job of showcasing various narratives through their innovative designs on each of the Biblical Series coins. This stunning antique-finish coin is the perfect way to continue this year’s installments of the series, or collect the entire series. You can start your own journey or give a fantastic gift with this dramatic Silver 2 oz coin.
With a limited mintage of only 1,499 coins, these artistic coins are an incredible addition to any collection. You can shop the latest release, as well as the whole Scottsdale Mint Biblical Series, now at APMEX!
