APMEX is excited to announce the first Icons of Route 66 Shield for 2019! This release features an iconic landmark on America’s Highway and is only minutes away from our headquarters.

APMEX introduced the Icons of Route 66 Series in early 2018 to celebrate the Main Street of America that opened on November 11, 1926 and its miles of entertainment and peculiar attractions in a time before cell phones and handheld entertainment. The shields are designed to match the instantly recognizable Route 66 road sign. As the series continues from Illinois to California, each issue will feature an iconic Route 66 attraction from that state.

This fourth release brings the viewer into Oklahoma. Just outside the state's capital city stands the Arcadia Round Barn, the most photographed landmark on Route 66. The barn was built by local farmer William Harrison Odor using native bur oak boards soaked and placed in special jigs he created to bend them for the walls and rafters. The town of Arcadia prospered and in the 1920s the newly commissioned Route 66 passed right next to the Round Barn, which survives as America's only truly round (as opposed to hexagonal or octagonal) barn. The barn, which is 60' in diameter and 45' in height, was designed with the notion that being round would help it withstand Oklahoma tornadoes.

The limited production of each release adds further appeal on top of the eye-catching shield shape, unique designs and .999 fine Silver content. Each Icons of Route 66 Series Highway Shield comes in a custom shield-shaped capsule. Multiples of 10 will come individually capsulated but sealed in one single stack.
