Scottsdale Mint Releases First Biblical Series Coin of 2018
Scottsdale Mint is known for their intricate and one-of-a-kind releases and the Biblical Series is the epitome of Scottsdale’s style. The latest release of their 60-coin series is Noah’s Dove – the symbol of the second time the dove returned to him in the evening with a fresh olive leaf in its beak, showing Noah the floodwaters were almost gone.
Since 2015, the Biblical Series has been bringing popular stories from the Bible to life through the imagery of artist Gustave Doré and his biblical artwork. From the more popular stories like The Nativity to lesser known stories such as Pale Horse, each coin offers a unique perspective of every story. In this 60-coin series, there will be a story that speaks to each collector.
Gustave Doré was a French artist who worked in many different mediums including printmaking, sculpting and wood engraving. Throughout his career, he commissioned many pieces, including depictions of Don Quixote, Little Red Riding Hood and Andromeda. Some of his most renowned artwork was his 241 illustrations for the La Sainte Bible in 1866, which is the muse for this Scottsdale Mint series.
The newest release in the series is the 2018 2 oz Silver Coin Noah’s Dove which depicts an image of Noah’s ark on top of a hill during the floods with the dove flying back to the ark. This image represents the dove coming back to Noah with an olive leaf plucked from a tree, giving Noah the sign the water levels had calmed and it was safe to leave the haven of the ark. The obverse of the coin shows the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the coin’s weight, purity and face value.
