Summer Seminar Helps New, Advanced Numismatists Fine Tune Their Skills

Each June, the American Numismatic Association hosts their annual Summer Seminar. Over the course of two weeks, hundreds of coin enthusiasts travel to Colorado Springs to discover the world of money through educational workshops and seminars. There is something for everyone at this one-of-a-kind event and attendees range from teenagers to seniors.
APMEX holds the Summer Seminar close to our hearts, as we have been a big supporter of the ANA since our inception. Our employees attend numerous ANA-sponsored coin shows around the country on a yearly basis.
One of our Senior Numismatists teaches a counterfeit detection class at the Summer Seminar and several members of our Numismatic Team and Receiving Department attend classes to help fine tune their skills. These classes include Advanced Grading, Paper Money, Barber Coinage and Early American Copper.
“We had a great Counterfeit Detection class this year with 22 students,” Senior Numismatist Jim Robinson said of his class, Detection of Counterfeit and Altered Coins. “There were people of all ages, including a few Young Numismatist members, and they came from various places around the country. Everyone had a great time and we made learning fun!”
Additionally, each year, we donate a number of products to the Young Numismatists auction, which helps the next generation start or continue their own love of this hobby – and potential career. Members of the ANA’s Young Numismatists club help create the catalog and organize the entire event. All proceeds go to the YN Summer Seminar Scholarship Fund, which helps dozens of YNs attend seminar every year.
Our team members always look forward to Summer Seminar and we can’t wait until the entire team returns to teach the rest of us new things they learned this year!
