The Royal Mint Announces Mythical Creature Coin
The latest release from The Royal Mint has made its way to APMEX! The 2018 Silver Two Dragon coins celebrate the legendary dragons from both Chinese and English culture. This iconic creature can be found throughout history across the world and on many Precious Metal designs.
The Welsh dragon is a fearsome beast, once flown on banners on battlefields. It is also part of the 10 Queen’s Beasts, alongside the Lion of England and Unicorn of Scotland. In Chinese mythology, dragons can control the elements and are symbols of power and strength. These two dragons are some of the most storied and long-standing traditions.
As The Royal Mint celebrates 50 years at its current home in South Wales U.K. and continues to expand its bullion business into Asia, it is only fitting they release a coin celebrating the legendary creature that links two very different cultures.
The design of the Two Dragon coin is incredibly unique. The obverse shows the timeless effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the face value of 2 pounds. The reverse features two dragons – one representing the traditional Chinese dragon and the other the Welsh dragon – combined into one beautiful image. It also shows an inscription of “TWO DRAGONS” as well as the date and purity of the coin.
