Gold American Eagles were first produced in 1986, one year after Congress ratified the Gold Bullion Act of 1985. The act ordered the U.S. Mint to begin producing Gold bullion items. The Gold Eagles have been minted ever since, with limited numbers rolling out each year in accordance with demand.
Would you like to know more about the design on these beautiful coins? The image on the obverse made its debut way back in 1907. It depicts Lady Liberty set against the brilliant rays of a rising sun, her hair flowing gracefully in the breeze. Her right hand holds her iconic torch, and the left hand clutches an olive branch. The coin's reverse features two eagles: a male and a female. The male is descending toward the female, who is sheltering her nest. Together, the obverse and reverse of these coins communicate a powerful message about the ideals of American society.
