San Francisco Mint Silver Eagles Silver Eagles are among the finest Silver coins issued by the United States and are considered one of the most beautiful coins ever minted. Due to popular demand, the U.S. Mint began minting Silver American Eagles at the San Francisco Mint again. The San Francisco Mint was originally established to serve Gold mines that appeared during the Gold rush in 1854. They have played an integral part of minting history every since, producing bullion for decades. The American Silver Eagle was struck by the San Francisco Mint from 1986 to 1998, but production came back again to the San Francisco Mint in 2011. The high demand for 1 oz Silver coins helped facilitate the need for the American Silver Eagle to be processed at the San Francisco Mint. The Mint does not currently produce circulating coins.
