Non-US Issues - Not all coinage used in the United States was minted in America. During the times of the colonial settlements, the colonies lacked sufficient coinage to meet their every day needs. England failed to mint a sufficient supply of coppers for themselves or its colonies in America. This unmet need was satisfied by the Wood's Hibernia coins. These coins were initially intended for Ireland, but were rejected and failed to circulate.
