2016 Gold & Silver Pandas - The Chinese Gold and Silver Panda bullion coins are among the most popular coins in the world marketplace. Several Chinese mints produce the Chinese Panda bullion coins, including Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Shenyang. The new 2016 Gold and Silver Pandas are now being produced in metric system sizes to better suit the international appeal of the coins. These new gram sizes are replacing the troy ounce sizes of previous dates in the series.
While not an exact conversion, the new gram sizes provide the closest metric equivalent to the similarly sized ounce counterparts: *1 oz replaced by 30 grams *1/2 oz replaced by 15 grams *1/4 oz replaced by 8 grams *1/10 oz replaced by 3 grams *1/20 oz replaced by 1 gram
The obverse design of the Gold & Silver Panda coins depicts the image of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. Unlike many Gold bullion and Silver bullion coins, the reverse design of the Chinese Pandas changes each year. The reverse of the 2016 Gold Panda coins and 2016 Silver Panda coins both feature a cheerful panda resting on a tree branch in the middle of a bamboo forest along with the weight, purity and denomination.
Though varying each year, the reverse of the Gold Panda nevertheless always depicts the rare yet well-known animal inhabiting China, the panda. Loved worldwide for its distinctive coloring, natural and unstrained appearance, meek temperament and innocence, the panda celebrated on these coins gives the 2016 Panda bullion coin series an endearing touch.
