America The Beautiful Uncirculated Coins - The United States Mint’s America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ program honors the majesty and beauty of America’s National Parks. In 1916, under the direction of President Theodore Roosevelt, the National Park Service was established to protect natural national landmarks. During his presidency, Roosevelt declared five national parks, 18 national monuments and more than 100 million acres of national forest. Later presidents were able to continue Roosevelt’s legacy under the Antiquities Act, which allowed them to establish more than 100 national parks and monuments. Forty-nine of these remain today, while others have been reclassified or renamed. President Roosevelt is now honored as one of the four faces on Mount Rushmore for his dedication and commitment to the preservation of some of America’s greatest national treasures.
