America the Beautiful Burnished Coins - The United States Mint’s America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ program honors the majesty and beauty of America’s National Parks. This series is highly anticipated each year by collectors and investors alike for its .999 fine Silver content and the breathtaking images these coins boast. Each coin features a depiction of a national or historical park or forest from each of the 50 states and American territories.
The United States Mint offers coins from the America the Beautiful collection in a burnished finish. This means that the coin has been “vapor blasted” to give it a more matte finish whereas the bullion version has a more shiny appearance.
In 1916, under the direction of President Theodore Roosevelt, the National Park Service was established to protect natural national landmarks. During his presidency, Roosevelt declared five national parks, 18 national monuments and more than 100 million acres of national forest. Later presidents were able to continue Roosevelt’s legacy under the Antiquities Act, which allowed them to establish more than 100 national parks and monuments. Forty-nine of these remain today, while others have been reclassified or renamed. President Roosevelt is now honored as one of the four faces on Mount Rushmore for his dedication and commitment to the preservation of some of America’s greatest national treasures.
