2017 Royal Mint Lunar Series - This wonderful series of coins known as the Shengxiào Collection, adds the beautiful design of the Year of the Rooster to its lineup. The Shengxiào Collection is a series of 12 lunar coins to be struck for the United Kingdom starting in 2014. They are the first legal tender Lunar coins struck for the United Kingdom by The Royal Mint. The Royal Mint has meticulously crafted these beautiful Gold and Silver coins with a fusion of both Chinese and British heritage. The collection is inspired by centuries of tradition and has been named in honor of the Chinese zodiac.
The stunning design was produced by British Chinese artist and printmaker, Wuon-Gean Ho. Featured on the reverse is a March Daisy Rooster standing above ten March Daisies. In Chinese culture the number ten is believed to symbolize perfection and, as the rooster is also the tenth animal in the zodiac cycle, this year promises to bring luck and prosperity. The obverse displays the fifth effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
